Institute for the Study of Biblical Literature (ISBL)

The Institute for the Study of Biblical Literature (ISBL), Henan University, PRC was founded on April 22, 2001, and carries out research into biblical literature in the following areas:

◎ Study of the basic features and particular attributes of biblical literature, including its achievements, ideological concepts, themes, structures, literary forms, prototypes, imagery, language, rhetoric, style, metaphor, background, history of formation, writing and redaction.

◎ Comparative research into biblical-Jewish-Christian literature, involving parallel research and study of the relations between biblical-Jewish-Christian literature and world literature, including Chinese literature.

◎ Research on bible translation and the spread of the bible in China, including particular translation problems, theories of translation, important versions and translators in the history of Chinese bible translation.

◎ Research into the history of Western biblical hermeneutics and criticism, both historical and present, including theories and approaches important works and prominent individuals.
